City Marketing Stadionpark
Around 2030, the Stadionpark will be one of Rotterdam's emblems. What once was no more than a football stadium nestled in the meadows on the fringes of the city will become an international sports hub. This dynamic spot will be the figurehead of Rotterdam, City of Sports, as well as a hub for South Rotterdam: an area for all levels of sport, for young and old alike, for beginners as well as international top athletes, with a focus on diversity, multifunctionality, more exercise and a more active lifestyle. The New Kuip stadium will be the pride of South Rotterdam, enjoying international recognition through (sporting) events that take place here which are broadcasted around the globe.
Stadionpark will connect South Rotterdam with the Randstad, be part of its urban fabric and offer facilities as well as employment. Barriers will be broken down as people work together to create a range of sports and leisure facilities, attractive public spaces, a strong green-blue main structure, accessibility to the Maas River bank and Brienenoord Island, which form the heart of this new part of Rotterdam. In short, the Stadionpark development project is all about the integral regional development of South Rotterdam, with components of (inter)national significance.
De Kuip, the New Kuip, the 400-metre ice rink and the Topsportcentrum will be dotted along the central axis from the station to the stadium on the Nieuwe Maas River as the Stadionpark's identity bearers. In addition to these large components, the structural design planning will create 600,000 m2 of property development, which will be phased in over a period of 20 to 25 years and divided between various sectors and sub-areas.
